Highgate-3

The brief was to open the garden up and create a number of terraces to provide a series of level, useable areas.  The client is a keen gardener so the planting scheme and it's location was important.

This project presented some landscaping difficulties as the garden sloped steeply up from the house to the woodland area at the back.

Considerable excavation was required and the only access was via a narrow side-passage.

Excavation close to the house was necessary to give a decent sized area for entertaining.  Indian sandstone was laid in different sizes to create a random pattern.

A water feature in this area provides a focal point from the house and helps disguise some of the traffic noise from a nearby road.

A semi-circular timber retaining wall gives some enclosure to the area and provides some height for the planting. Timber and stone steps lead to the upper terraced areas and studio.

Lighting in the main borders and within the water feature bring the garden to life at night.
